[fic search]: Jack/Daniel

Mmm, hi! I'm desperately searching for a lost fic. I posted at jackslashdaniel and despite their best efforts they couldn't help me. I can't remember the name, the author, or what site I read it on. I do remember that the story was rather short, less than 6000 words for certain. It's revealed in the fic that Daniel is trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building and there is water coming in under the ruins. As the story progresses, the water slowly rises. Jack is holding his head above the water and I think telling him a story though Daniel falls unconscious about halway through the fic. They're waiting for Carter and Teal'c to come get them, and at the end of the fic they radio in.

I cannot remember if it is specifically Jack/Daniel or if it's pre-slash or generic friendship. My leaning is that the story was pre-slash.

Note: It is not the wonderful story by chattycatsmeow, which is remarkably similar and lovely as well.

This sounds familiar, but I'm not placing it. Can you remember *anything* else about it? Even a phrase one of the characters uses or something like that?

Ugh. I can't. I think light may have been a factor, like in the title or light reflecting off water but no episode tag to The Light. It was rated PG or PG-13. Daniel doesn't talk much during it, except maybe to give Jack and eye-roll at the story Jack's telling. Jack I think tells Daniel that it's his turn to tell the story and to shut up and listen.

I remember wishing it was longer :C

I know. I think I've gone through every single combination of 'jack/daniel' 'water' 'fanfic' and 'ruins' that I can think of on Google. And then gone back eighteen pages in each. *sighs*

Um no, but if you have a link to that one... Jack was definitely there because otherwise Daniel's head would have been underwater because he couldn't support himself.

It wasn't a cave, but I tried anyway to no avail. Though there are a lot of stories that involve Daniel falling into caves and Jack pulling him back out. *pout*

Do you recall if you read it on LJ or on an archive? Or maybe a personal site?

Ugh. I can't. The usual suspects are LJ and Area52, though, and I've already looked back through Area52. I'm absolutely stymied as to why I'm having such a hard time finding it. Usually I only hit a few sites, and read recs and what not, but nobody's recced it.

I'm doing my best to remember phrases from the fic to help my google-fu. I think Jack said 'shut up' and something about it being his turn to tell the story. It was third person POV.

All I remember was that it was an analogy about his relationship with Daniel. There may or may not have been a dog in the story. I'm starting to think this may be pre-slash.

The story is actually gen.

I am always and forever a gen girl, but that's one of gen's biggest advantages: subtext is in the eyes of the reader. It's all-inclusive, instead of excluding those that don't care for a particular ship.

LOL!!!! I even went out and checked stargatefan.com and some other gen hang outs because I couldn't remember if it was slash or gen. That's the problem with being a 'bi-reader', I can't narrow it down to a particular genre. :-)
