Daniel & foster sytem

1.
I know this is a bit of a random search, but are there any stories where Daniel somehow gets custody of a foster child, or even just meets one and tries to help him/her?
Or failing that, stories where he meets a child that has been orphaned or abused and he takes it in?

2.
Stories dealing with Daniel's time in the foster system. I don't mind stories where he's already grown up and he meets someone from the past, or he experiences flashbacks.

Basically any story that deals with Daniel and the foster system is fine.
Thank you in advance

Has anyone rescued that Geocities one? I think OTW had a project to save things like that, but I haven't followed the details.

http://transformativeworks.org/projects/geocities-rescue has some information. It looks like it's easiest for the author themselves to do, given that they can actually archive the fic on AO3. Do you know her at all? It looks like the only alternative for people who aren't the author is to document on fanlore that the fic once existed, which isn't ideal.

It doesn't appear to be in the Wayback Machine, either. Apparently anyone who's prepared to install the Alexa toolbar can submit stuff to the Wayback Machine, but it then takes six months to see whether it's worked or not, which is no good.

Does the new Dreamwidth search work on your recs lists so you can see how many major fics are still only on Geocities?

Oh, I've heard of the project, but I don't know Sam Walker at all. She's fairly well known in some circles of SG1 fandom, though--I hope somebody has contacted her.

I haven't tried the search on my lists; I do have search engines turned off for my journal, and figured that covers internal searches, too. But I can try it. I can also text search the files on my hard drive.

Orrymain has Jack and Daniel with a large family - some of their children are adopted. The beginning of this is a story called Ten Months.

Orrymain writes all her stories in the same universe, they are linked, but can be read independently.

A Quiet Victory by Biblio. It's slash and it deals with the fan favorite of Daniel and a not-so-good foster placement. However, Daniel is not portrayed as a victim and, in the end, comes out the better man for it.

I think alot of that speaks to Biblio's sheer talent. And yes, I felt more sympathy for Will than anything because of his inability to get past what happened between him and Daniel.

I recently read 'A Life in Ruins' by Sazz & Pough. I don't know how to explain it without spoiling the story but Daniel's time in foster care is handled in parts 3 and 4 and I found it very believable based on the occurances in the first 2 chapters. The warnings at the beginning have put me off reading this story a couple of times but I took the plunge after reading a couple of recs and I am not sorry it is a very emotional story, and I will be reading it again, it is a keeper.

You can read it at:

http://www.geocities.com/sazz27/chapters.html (although it says WIP in the summary it is now complete)

or at FFnet in smaller chapters:

The Scion Series (http://jd-divas.com/kalimyre/kalimyre.html) by kalimyre has a cloned Daniel at age 7 delivered to the SGC. He has all Daniel's memories up to that point. The warnings say suggestions of child abuse, and it's J/D slash.
