Mods: sorry about the lack of tags but I know very little about this story other then it is about empathy and I did not see a tag for that. Below is a copy of all the info I could find.

The premise of the series:

Around the 1900s empathy became a fact proven by science. Governments around the world wanted these rare individuals as a military resource. When basic DNA tests were devised to test for this gift, the USA made it mandatory that all newborns be tested and any empaths found be given into the care of the State. The people allowed this as they saw empaths as mutants and sub-human.

Daniel Jackson was born with this gift and he managed to live unregistered and in hiding until he was 11 years old. Needing medical care, he was revealed to the authorities and the military stepped in to claim him. He is reaching the age when he needs to form a life-long bond with another human or risk certain insanity... Will the Powers That Be doom him to life-long dependence on the most hateful sleazebag on the planet? Or will PJ Capt Jack O'Neill risk his marriage and his career to save Daniel?
