I seem to remember a story where Daniel and Jack are at an archaeological meeting. Daniel is getting grief and Jack happens to them in a big way. There's mention of all the funding Daniel gets and when one of the older Daniel detractors gets interested jack shoots him down in flames "we don't advertise". Anyone know the story?

I couldn’t find a specific story that matched your phrase. The ones listed here all have Jack and Daniel at a convention together. I suspect there are more out there, but I don’t have them.

hmm... is it 'vindication (or, paybacks are hell)' (http://www.stargatefan.com/fictionqz/vindication.html) by brenda anders? it's jack/daniel friendship, & it's not set at a convention but at a funeral, but the rest seems to fit... could be.

Can't think of the name but Jack is wearing his dress blues and his sunglasses (I think). That might help people narrow it down.

I think that may be the funeral one listed above (he definitely wears dress blues and "dress sunglasses" in that one).

Wasn't there also one where Jack managed to get himself banned for life from some archeology professional society for wrecking havoc at a seminar/meeting/etc. Daniel was attending (possibly to recruit for the SGC)?

That's the only part of the story that sticks out (it was at the end, scene was in the briefing room, Jack was actually disappointed, IIRC). I'm pretty sure it was slash.

Of course, I could've imagined it... *sigh*
