Daniel as a Girl

I'm looking for fics focusing on Daniel being or turning into a female, and hopefully ending up having a het romance with Jack. Now, let me emphasize that I'm looking for stories in which the point is to explore Daniel-as-a-girl, not stories in which Daniel-as-a-girl is just a prelude to Daniel going back to being a boy and having a slash relationship with Jack.

CK here. Be careful. Adjustments has more than one ending - one slash and one het. I think the B ending is the het one... *goes to check* Yup! If you are slash averse, skip A and go straight to B. Internal story navigation is pretty clear.

Also, if you are avoiding slash you might find my story a little iffy because I tried really hard to write Daniel as a mostly male POV. So his perspective on what is happening between him and Jack is sort of a hybrid thing and has some slash elements. But if you are looking for exploration of feminity and what would happen if Daniel became a woman, then this might be just fine for you.

Thanks, CK. I did read your story, actually, and left an appreciative comment. I was just looking for more stories along those lines.

Daniel's mostly male POV didn't bother me, as the gender/identity stuff is part of what I'm looking for. I thought that was very well done, actually, and I loved the intensity and humor in Jack and Daniel's interaction. You are a gifted writer.

But there were aspects of Jack's reaction that did bother me. I would expect Jack to be freaked out by girl-Daniel, but he seemed overly angry and brutal, esp. during the het love scene. However, I think that was due to you going in a different direction than what you originally had in mind, since I gather from the comments you originally intended to have a slash ending. Out of curiosity I also read the slash ending, and in the context of Jack's fears as revealed there, his behavior makes more sense.

Also, though the het ending certainly would be my preference, there was something about it that seemed a little forced and artificial to me. Maybe because it wasn't YOUR preference. So I guess I would also like to find stories in which the het is less reluctant.

Argh. Faux pas to not check my old comments before droning on here. I remember your discomfort with the het sex. I thought about it a lot, actually, after I got your comment. At the time, I didn't feel like I was writing a particularly rough encounter - Jack talked a mean game and Daniel was virginally nervous, but at the same time they have the trust between them that let Daniel not overreact to Jack's attempts to frighten him. But looking back over it now, maybe it was a little OOT for a first time.

Funny, somebody called me on the scene where Viggo and Sean finally get together in Arena, for similar, but slightly different reasons. Basically because Sean reacted inappropriately to the situation, being too accepting, just as Daniel was unfazed by Jack's behavior. I guess to a certain degree it boils down to this being erotic fantasy, so while it's totally legit to criticize these aspects of the porn content, it is fantasy, and some fantastical component is to be expected. (Which is a total cop out.)

I believe the comment you are thinking of came from someone else, but I remember reading it. My reactions were somewhat similar, though more focused on "I can't see Jack acting like this."

And, no, it's not a total cop-out. I think it's definitely true there is sometimes a conflict between creating juicy situations and being true to the characters -- esp. with regard to erotic fantasy, but really in all fiction, I'd say.

Thanks, I actually did check the genderswitch tag before posting this. But a couple of those stories were the Daniel-goes-back-to-boy-and-slash-ensues kind, which is why I specified not that. One was a bad link, and one I'm afraid to get into because it's a WIP, though the premise is very intriguing.

I did read Adjustments, and left an appreciative comment. It was very well-written and had some great funny/sweet moments, though to me the het ending seemed sort of half-hearted.

The ivory_gates series looks like my cup of tea also, but it seems to follow the cannon storyline, whereas I would prefer an original plot. But, as someone pointed out, it may be interesting to explore the differences that would emerge in the cannon plotline from Daniel being female, so I may keep reading that.

Okay, I guess I'm just too picky! But I was hoping someone would know of more of these sorts of stories.

I know this message is VERY late to the game, but... I highly rec the ivory gates story, and its less canon than you think. It's Dani crossing universes between two SGC's... with Furlings out of an unusual (and disconcerting) Earth mythology. This one was read first by my husband (who's read about 10 fanfic stories) and was so good, we both kept reading. It also has one of the most lyrical, tender (het) sex scenes I have ever read.
