I'm in the mood to read stories where John and Rodney have made a conscious decision to be fuck buddies and then progress to being in a serious relationship. Examples are lamardeuse's Getting To Know You Series and my own Easy. I'm sure there are heaps more (which I've probably already read) but I can't remember them!

McKay/Sheppard isn't my OTP but one story of that theme that I remember I thoroughly enjoyed (and I'm certain everybody has already read) is Every Day In Every Way (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=8) by velocitygrass. :)

The rules are unspoken but there, and they used to suit him just fine. It used to be simple, helping each other out when things got desperate. He's not sure when that changed for him, but he's not happy about it, and most days, he tries not to think about it. He'd have to speak up if he wants to change things now.
But John doesn't say anything, anything at all, because he wouldn't know where to start.
