fanfic featuring disability

Hi everyone. I've just joined. My name's Cate and I run the website Disability_fanfic. Which, if you don't know, it lists all fanfic I know of (in any fandom) in which a main character has or acquires a disability.

I'm not sure whether this is allowed in this community, so if not then sorry and obviously ignore/delete it. I am looking for recommendations of stories that people have enjoyed that I don't yet have listed on my site (if you can't be bothered checking the site, just rec anyway) which features disability as a major theme.

I'm also looking for fics in other fandoms, but I can't really ask for that here. Still, if you know of any then please please leave a comment in my journal.

The best disability fic I've ever read is Delilah's You'd Forgotten Love Could Mean This. It's Jack/Daniel and involves the Quantum Mirror in which 2 Daniels get switched. One of the Daniels meets a blind Jack. The story is so beautiful.

Hurrah! Yes, I love that series. As a note: her page at AlphaGate (where the above link goes) doesn't have all of her stories in the blind!Jack series -- there are now 5 of them. Her own page has them all:

"Goodbye to Dreams" by babs and devra, has Daniel becoming mentally retarded after an alien encounter, and Jack has to step in to help him. Wrenching story.

SGA, 'And The Sky Was Dark' by Kodiak Bear Country, Gen but John is blinded, McKay is blind in one eye with tremors--they do get fixed, though. The story is interesting, and pretty well done.

I can't rec anything that someone else hasn't already suggested, but would you mind a suggestion for the page? Instead of just saying yes/no about a story being slash, perhaps you could just say if it's het, slash, or gen? There was one SG-1 story there that interested me, but--GASP!--Jack/Sam? Horrors! :)

That's actually something I was planning on doing. I'm really not into het either. It will be a fairly time consuming thing to do though because of the way most fandoms categorize fic. Something is generally classified as slash even if it features no sex, while het is used only for stories featuring graphic het sex scenes. Those with a relationship between two straight people with no sex in the story are often just called gen. That means it's easy to pick out slash stories, but more difficult to tell the G and PG-13 het stories, from the real gen.

To be sure I'm giving them the right labels, I'll have to read/re-read all the ones that don't mention a pairing before the story starts. Which will take a while, and I'm kind of putting off starting. I'll get around to it eventually though. And thanks for the suggestion, because it lets me know there are other people out there who would be interested, so I wouldn't just be doing it for my own benefit!

I haven't found that to be true in SG-1 fandom--"gen" stories I've read have all been romance/sex-free. I grant that I am not great with other fandoms, though...as part of your search for stories, you might want to ask for peoples' assessments of the stories' content in the conventions of the fandom. That way you won't be overwhelmed.

Personally, if I'm not sure, I do a search on the page for the word "kiss"--that lets me see who gets intimate without having to read the unpleasant details. :)
