fanfic featuring disability
22 May 2006 12:46 amHi everyone. I've just joined. My name's Cate and I run the website Disability_fanfic. Which, if you don't know, it lists all fanfic I know of (in any fandom) in which a main character has or acquires a disability.
I'm not sure whether this is allowed in this community, so if not then sorry and obviously ignore/delete it. I am looking for recommendations of stories that people have enjoyed that I don't yet have listed on my site (if you can't be bothered checking the site, just rec anyway) which features disability as a major theme.
I'm also looking for fics in other fandoms, but I can't really ask for that here. Still, if you know of any then please please leave a comment in my journal.
Thanks in advance for any help
Cate.

as does her page at Area52:
http://www.area52hkh.net/author.php?name=Delilah
There is another blind!Jack story that comes to mind, that is also Jack/Daniel:
"What is Essential" by JoaG and babs
http://www.area52hkh.net/asj/joag/essential011.php
(links automatically to part 2)
(personally, I like Delilah's better; but hey, for the sake of completeness...)

What is Essential (http://jd-divas.com/babs/wie.shtml) by Babs and JoaG (Jack, blindness, slash)
What Endures (http://jd-divas.com/babs/whatendures.shtml) by Babs (Daniel, partial deafness, finger amputation, permanent limp)

Date: 22 May 2006 01:18 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if the disabilities need to be permanent, but if not -
Jack/Daniel
* Challenging The Mirror - http://www.area52hkh.net/asj/jennamajig/mirror.php (mobility issues)
* The Rock Chronicles - http://www.area52hkh.net/asw/wland/rockchron.php (blindness)
* There Is A Pain So Utter - http://www.geocities.com/sazz27/There_is_a_Pain_So_Utter.html (cancer). This is gen, but its sequel The Language Of Touch - http://www.area52hkh.net/asp/pough/utter02.php is slash.

Date: 23 May 2006 07:24 pm (UTC)To be sure I'm giving them the right labels, I'll have to read/re-read all the ones that don't mention a pairing before the story starts. Which will take a while, and I'm kind of putting off starting. I'll get around to it eventually though. And thanks for the suggestion, because it lets me know there are other people out there who would be interested, so I wouldn't just be doing it for my own benefit!

Date: 23 May 2006 08:01 pm (UTC)I haven't found that to be true in SG-1 fandom--"gen" stories I've read have all been romance/sex-free. I grant that I am not great with other fandoms, though...as part of your search for stories, you might want to ask for peoples' assessments of the stories' content in the conventions of the fandom. That way you won't be overwhelmed.
Personally, if I'm not sure, I do a search on the page for the word "kiss"--that lets me see who gets intimate without having to read the unpleasant details. :)
