Hi,
I have two completely unrelated requests:

1. I've read a lot of fics where Jack and Daniel's relationship is met with disapproval because of the DADT, because of Sam's jealousy or because of people's beliefs in god and the bible. But I've yet to read a story where Jack and Daniel are coming out to a selected and trusted circle of friends and are shocked to be met with disapproval because their friends think that they are risking too much by engaging in such a relationship. Meaning - They are risking losing their place in the Stargate program if something like this is found out, and considering both of their histories it could be disastrous for them. Does anyone know of such stories?

2. Crossover with Master and Commander. I've watched the movies and the clashes of personality between Jack and Stephen reminded me a whole lot of the clashes in personality between Jack and Daniel. Despite that, both pairs seem to have a wonderful relationship going for them. Anyone knows of a Crossover between the two fandoms, of fics where Jack and Daniel takes the place of Jack and Stephen in the Aubrey-Maturin series?

Everything is Illuminated. This is a link to one of Biblio's e-philes. This wonderful story deals honestly with what 'coming out' would mean to Jack. Hammond is understandably shocked. Carter is also shocked but angered because Jack knew how she felt and could have told her at any time that there was no chance for the two of them. I love that even as shocked and angered as she was, she was also legitimately concerned for Daniel. She warns Jack that while he's thoughtlessly burning his bridges, he needs to remember that Daniel is the person getting doused with gasoline.

My main argument with how Sam is frequently portrayed is that she is often cast in the role of the heartless bitch who wants only to come between Jack and Daniel.

The way I understand the e-philes is that they are priced to just cover expenses and the writers don't actually 'make' any money. Or if they do, it is so nominal that it doesn't count. I've yet to see anyone challenging that on a legal basis, although I have heard that certain authors (Anne Rice, Nora Roberts) have said they will sue anyone who 'publishes' fanfic with any of their characters.

It guts me that some slash writers cannot portray Sam as a smart, capable woman. In order to build up Daniel, they feel they have to knock Sam down. But, in all fairness, I've seen some Jack/Sam writers completely dismiss Daniel as inconsequential and try to 'prove' that Jack and Daniel were never really friends. I'm pretty sure Continuum made that canon!

Alot of writers find it difficult to have Sam deal with the real issue: her true feelings for Jack and whether she ever seriously thought she and Jack would end up together.

The thing that I gripe about with the e-philes is when a writer starts a series, posts it freely and suddenly the rest of the stories are on ephiles where one must pay if one wants to read the end of it. That makes me mad and smacks of someone who just wants to make some bucks off fanfic.

Let me make it clear that I don't include Biblio's Maternal Instinct in that. If you've read the A Curse and a Blessing series, MI comes after that series. But you are not left hanging at the end of that series; the storyline wraps up nicely and if you don't choose to buy MI, then you don't have to loose sleep wondering what the hell happened.

Biblio is the only fanfic writer whose work I have paid for and it was worth every cent.

1) Icarus's Colony Atlantis has General Hammond having to deal with the J/D situation from a "bigger picture" point of view. It's a lovely, wonderful story, but the Hammond part is bittersweet, in a very real and grownup way.
